COMPANY HISTORY

Springfield was established in 1956 and has remained a family owned company. In 2005, Springfield was recognised by the Virgin Atlantic Sunday Times Fast Track list as Scotland's fastest growing, profitable, private company.

Our principal business is property development and construction, property development becoming a key activity in the early 1990s under the leadership of Sandy Adam, (Chairman, and grandson of the founder of Springfield).

The move into construction came in 1998 triggering the most significant growth phase of the company. The vision of John Main, MD, saw the new workforce build the prestigious Marine Apartments in Nairn within eighteen months of it's inception, and to go on to increase the size of the workforce year on year. The company now employs over 200 people directly and has over 200 sub contractors working on projects in Moray, Highland and the North east of Scotland. Over the five years to end of 2007 we will have built over 1000 new homes.

Provision of affordable housing is high on our agenda, in 2005/2006 we handed over more than a hundred affordable homes to housing associations. In 2006 in partnership with 3 housing associations, Springfield started work on the largest affordable housing scheme in the north of Scotland, which will see 100 units handed over.

Our biggest achievement is the five year negotiation through planning of the 'Elgin South' development which, by completion, will provide Elgin with over 1100 new homes, a mixed use community park and all the other commensurate infrastructure. Elgin South developments include Glassgreen, Linkwood, Waulkmill (housing association) and Glassgreen Gardens (not yet released).

In recent years Springfield has diversified into offering services to the construction industry. By 2004 delivering infrastructure had become problematical and was holding up our build programmes, as a result we set up a civil engineering division which is now recognised as having the capability to deliver major infrastructure projects. This diversification was soon followed by planning services. In addition we have sister companies which carry out asbestos removal and landscape maintenance. This policy has led to economies which benefit our clients, improve the profitability of the company and strengthen the Springfield brand.
