Springfield’s Bertha Park hosts first Wee Run Events trail run

3rd March 2023

More than 100 running enthusiasts from across Perth turned out in force on Sunday 26th February to take part in Wee Run Event’s brand new trail run at Bertha Park Village, in association with homebuilders Springfield Properties.

Participants had the choice of a 5km trail that looped round Bertha Loch and back up to Bertha Park Green along the old farm path, or a 10km trail for more experienced trail runners that stretched from Bertha Loch up to Almondbank and then back along the river. Each route was fully marked out and marshalled.

Based in the central belt of Scotland, Wee Run Events has been hosting community get-togethers for over 40 years. The group is dedicated to providing fun and challenging fitness events that are fully inclusive and open to walkers and runners alike.

Medals were handed out to those who successfully completed the trail run, donated by Springfield Properties as a keepsake of the event. The medals were individually handcrafted by The Workshop in Aberfeldy, a social enterprise founded in 2014 that offers young people who may be facing barriers into employment the opportunity to learn practical skills.

Participants were also greeted at the finish line with homemade sweets treats and refreshing drinks.

Bertha Park resident and Wee Run Events Race Director Nic Crossley, played a fundamental role in arranging the event. She said: “It was brilliant to see such a big turnout for the first ever trail run at Bertha Park. The event was a sell out with 100 local runners and walkers taking part, with families and friends also in attendance to cheer on their loved ones.

“We purposely selected a route that would be achievable for both new and experienced runners and walkers, that journeyed through the woods and gentle hills, and we were delighted to see every participant successfully cross the finish line.

“Although Bertha Park is a new village, there is already a thriving community with regular fitness events including walking groups and bootcamps, all supported by Springfield. It was amazing to see the local community come together to promote healthy lifestyles and connected communities and hopefully it won’t be long until we can organise the next event.”
