The Elgin-based Scottish housebuilder has become the main sponsor of the Walter Abbott Weekend of Darts that has generated tens of thousands of pounds for charity over the past 12 years.

Between Friday April 5 and Sunday April 7 the organisers expect around 300 darts players from throughout Scotland and beyond to take part in a variety of competitions at Elgin Town Hall.

One of the organisers, Springfield site manager Dave Allan of Elgin, is delighted with his firm’s involvement and says he hopes the event will provide a focus for a high standard of darts competition in Elgin and generate a lot of cash for local charities that help young people.

“Four years ago the event raised £4500 for charity and we hope to at least do the same this year,” he said. “It’s a big three-day event with competitions for blind draw threesomes, men, ladies and youths and has a prize fund for the Saturday competitions of £3300.”

The event is part of the UK circuit and attracts some of the best amateur and professional players – both local and national. Some years ago top English darts champion Kevin Painter won the event.

Following Saturday’s competition there will be an evening entertainment programme featuring the Neil Diamond Tribute Band and entry is free.

The finals are due to take place at the Town Hall around 4pm on Sunday, April 7.
