Two Springfield developments in Elgin being built under contract to Moray Council and Grampian Housing Association have received the highest recognition in the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards.

The developments have been jointly named UK Social Housing Development of the Year and the awards will be presented to Springfield, Moray Council and Grampian Housing Association at midday on Wednesday (June 5) at a lunch in Springfield’s main office at Alexander Fleming House in Elgin attended by the senior members from each organisation.

The larger development at Linkwood East in Elgin, is delivering 80 highly energy efficient new homes and includes one-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes. The project is an extension of a previous 48-home development for Moray Council, the local authority’s first social housing development for over twenty years.

The scheme includes a children’s play area and has developed parkland within the development boundaries.

The second Elgin development at neighbouring Waulkmill, consists of forty similar affordable homes. Waukmill was developed by Grampian Housing Association and Moray Council in conjunction with The Scottish Government.

Project-by-project Springfield has built a reputation for taking a flexible and pragmatic approach which focuses on clients’ needs to deliver high quality affordable homes.

Premier Guarantee, one of the UK’s leading warranty providers, hosted the seventh annual Excellence Awards in September 2012 and selected winners from over 1500 eligible developments in various categories across the UK after a rigorous judging procedure. Of those eligible for awards some 500 qualified for the category that includes social housing and which Springfield won.

Judging is based on the quality of construction across nine elements of the build from foundations to finish. Only those who demonstrate the highest standards in each of these areas receive an award.

Gary Devaney, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Premier Guarantee, said: “An Excellence Award from Premier Guarantee marks developments that have shown true class in their category. By recognising exceptional developments, Premier Guarantee promotes best practice in house building, bettering the construction quality of homes year on year for homeowners and their families.”

Springfield chairman Sandy Adam is delighted with the UK award and praised the ‘partnership’ element of the developments that delivered high-quality housing on time.

He said: “This is a great effort from all involved from the construction side as well as local authority and housing associations. It’s a perfect example of partnership in action.”
