49 new homes approved by planners
Springfield Properties’ plans for 49 new affordable homes to be built in Carluke have been approved by planners today.
The mix of 2 bedroom semi detached, terraced homes, cottage flats and apartments are proposed off Stanistone Road in Carluke, neighbouring the local high school and leisure centre.
Working with Clyde Valley Housing Association, the Scottish family business are expecting to be on site by the end of the year.
Springfield Partnerships Project Manager, Kevin Rooney said:
“We’re really pleased this site has been approved by South Lanarkshire Council. The development is designed to have a spacious feel and to create a high quality environment people will want to live in.
“We have worked with Clyde Valley Housing Association before on projects in Milton of Campsie, Cambuslang and Motherwell so we’re really looking forward to collaborating with them again for this project to add a further 49 affordable homes for the community and to help address the housing shortage.
“A project of this size will typically have 30-50 site workers on it at one time, so this could mean 50 new jobs in the area. We also try to bring on apprentices, with 10% of the Springfield workforce in a registered CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) apprenticeship, this is a great opportunity for young people looking to get into the industry.
“Now we’ve been given support from the local council, work can progress and we are aiming to be on site by the end of 2016.”
The delivery of these 49 new homes will help support the Scottish Governments £3 billion investment to increase and accelerate the supply of new affordable housing in Scotland over the next 5 years.
