Cycling for success
One of Scotland’s best junior cyclists is on track for another successful season thanks, in part, to support from Springfield Properties, a leading housebuilder offering private and affordable housing.
Georgia Mansfield (18) from Forres, is an up and coming athlete who is making a name for herself on the cycling circuit.
A regular on the podium, she holds a number of prestigious titles including the junior Scottish record for the 25-mile distance, which she completed in just 1 hour and 4 minutes, beating her previous time (and previous record by) almost two minutes.
This will be the second year Springfield Properties has backed the young athlete , with a sponsorship package which allows her to travel the country for competitions, purchase equipment and undertake a specialised training programme.
While she has spent the past year representing RT23, which consists of a number of very successful riders from across Scotland, Georgia was first discovered by Moray Wheelers who rallied together with local businesses to get her the funding she needed to take her talent to the next level. Now she is racing ahead of the pack and has been recruited for the elite women’s cycing team, NCC Group–Kuota–Torelli (Torelli) based in the North West of England.
As a full-time student at Stirling College, Georgia balances her gruelling training schedule with studying and relies heavily on the support she receives from her sponsors.
Georgia said; “I am hugely grateful to Springfield Properties for its continued support and to all those who have helped over the years. Cycling is an expensive passion, and as I progress with my career, I find myself traveling further afield. Between the regular trips to the Velodrome in Glasgow for training and the move to Torelli, transport and accommodation costs will quickly add up.”
“This season is set to be one of the most important of my career, but without the backing from organisations like Springfield I would not be able to achieve my dreams.”
Sandy Adam, chairman of Springfield Properties said; “It is clear that Georgia has something special which sets her apart. When we first met her, she was racing with a heavy old bike against people with far more experience and superior equipment, yet she was still crossing the finish line and achieving great results.
“It is fantastic to be part of her journey and I am in no doubt that we will see her go on to achieve great things.”
