The show home that changed the plan
Bertha Park, Perth
Andrew moved to Bertha Park in February 2025 with his wife Nickii and their two daughters, leaving a two-bedroom bungalow in Bridge of Earn where they'd lived for sixteen years. While they hadn't set out to buy a five-bedroom house, a visit to the Melford show home changed that, and the family has never looked back.
We knew Bertha Park long before we thought about buying here, our daughter goes to Bertha Park High School so we’ve seen the development take shape over the years. When we started looking for a bigger home, Bertha Park just made sense by keeping our kids in their usual routine and school and being close to our workplaces.
Though we were looking to upsize from our two-bedroom bungalow, we didn’t set out to buy a five-bedroom house. The Melford, the house type we ended up choosing, was the show home we went to visit, and we just fell in love with it. The quality of the house, together with the spacious interior, really impressed us. We love the layout, and that we have separate living and kitchen space which is something we wanted in our last home.
The kitchen is my favourite room in the house – it really is the heart of our home. As a trained chef, I spend a lot of time cooking, so having a spacious, well-designed kitchen where I can prepare meals while still being part of family life was a huge draw. It’s where we naturally come together at the end of the day. We've really enjoyed being able to put our own stamp on the place too. The standard fittings in the kitchen were such great quality that we left them as they were, and we upgraded the tiling in the ensuite bathrooms, and chose our own paint colours.
Every bedroom, even the smaller two, comes with a built-in wardrobe as standard, which has been a real bonus with two daughters who love their clothes.
Location wise, Perth is the perfect base. It's close enough to Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with great transport links. One of the things we love most is that we’ve kept that countryside feel we enjoyed in Bridge of Earn. There are beautiful walks straight from the development, through the woodland, by the loch and out towards Almondbank.
Bertha Park has a real sense of community too. We joined the residents' group as soon as we arrived, and everyone was really welcoming. There's always something on, and it's easy to join in at a relaxed pace. The development is thoughtfully laid out as well; you feel part of a community with people around you, and there's still a good sense of privacy if that's what you're after, which we've really enjoyed.
Overall, we're very happy in our new home at Bertha Park, and would recommend Springfield without a doubt.
